THE ROD OF MOSES IN YOUR HAND

By Clinton White

Remember when God=92s people were delivered from Egypt and they stood by =
the Red Sea? And Moses lifted up that rod and the sea parted, allowing =
them to pass through? I am sure that some of the children of Israel who =
followed Moses must have coveted and yearned to get a hold of that staff =
that he held up before the Pharaoh. I am sure they must have longed to =
get their hands on that rod that opened the Red Sea. But what is faith =
but the staff of Moses placed in your hand?

There was only one rod of Moses in the Old Testament, but now every man, =
every woman and every child can have this miracle-working rod of =
deliverance to raise up before their uncrossable chasms and their =
immovable mountains; before their pain or their shame or their =
loneliness; before the dark, turbulent, swirling waters of guilt, hatred =
or persecution. God has called us to hold up faith=97the rod of =
Moses=97before all our problems and trials. He has given everyone this =
miraculous gift, the gift to believe.

If God has given you the ability to hunger and to crave food to feed =
your body; if He has built things within your physical system to heal =
your body after it has been cut (the Bible says that we are" fearfully =
and wonderfully made" [Ps.139:14]); if He has made all these provisions =
in your brain and in your heart, and given you cells that rush healing =
power to your body when you are diseased, don=92t you think that God has =
given you something to deal with your greater needs? Of course He has: =
"God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith" (Rom.12:3).

You do have faith. The only thing is, you may be using it the wrong way. =
You may be using it to believe that nothing good can happen to you, that =
that thing that has got you by the throat is going to kill you. You may =
be using it to believe that every foul and evil thing that can possibly =
happen will happen to you.

The Bible teaches that we are two people. The disciple Thomas is called =
doubting Thomas and in the Greek his name is "Didymus" or "twin." He =
said, "Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put =
my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, =
I will not believe" (Jn.20:25).

And then, you still have the other Thomas, the spiritual Thomas: the one =
who would believe until he was martyred; the one who would believe if he =
was cast into prison; the Thomas who would follow the Lord Jesus Christ =
until he met death himself.

Inside every Christian is Didymus: "Lord, I believe; help thou mine =
unbelief" (Mk.9:24). You go before that swirling Red Sea that comes up =
against your life, and you say, "It=92ll never open; it=92s going to =
swallow me up." Oh, that is the Didymus side: "Lord, I can=92t believe =
unless I hear Your audible voice; I can=92t believe unless I see with my =
natural eye a marvelous display of miracles."

But yet, there is the other side of you, the real faith side, that seed =
that God has planted way down inside that says, "I=92ll believe no =
matter what I see because I=92m standing on the Word of God; I=92m a =
seed grown from the Word of God." And this faith is indestructible. All =
kinds of pressures and problems only become water and fertilizer to make =
that kind of faith grow stronger than it ever was before.

What kind of people can believe? Everybody can believe. Only you can =
choose to believe in the worst; you can choose to believe in the man who =
says, "It can=92t be done." You can choose to believe continually in the =
negative . . . or . . . you can choose to believe the Word of the Living =
God. You can reach out, you can touch the hem of Christ's garment, you =
can believe God's Word, stand on His Word, and see it bring peace and =
joy and power to your life.

Now you have a choice: YOU CAN BELIEVE!

Let us look at Hebrews, Chapter 11, and see the kind of people that =
believe, the honor roll of faith heroes.

Abraham believed (v.17). Oh, but you say that Abraham was a holy man, =
set apart. Abraham was a liar! Did you know that? If you have read his =
life, you know that he was a liar. What! A liar was able to believe? =
Yes! A carnal person like Abraham was able to have faith to believe in =
the living God.

Jacob believed (v.21). Oh my . . . Jacob . . . you mean Jacob is listed =
here in this honor roll of faith heroes? We have a deceiver, a cheater, =
a man like Jacob listed among these faith heroes? Do you mean someone =
who has an innate tendency to be deceitful can actually believe God for =
a miracle?

What I am telling you is that faith can be operative even though your =
adamic nature is still existent.

Moses believed (v.24). Moses killed. Moses lost his temper and chewed =
out the children of Israel once, and God disciplined him for it. But =
Moses was able to believe. "By faith Moses, when he was come to years, =
refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to =
suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of =
sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than =
the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the =
reward. By faith he forsook Egypt . . . "

How did he do this? How was he able to tear himself away from the lure =
of riches? How was he able to tear himself away from the lusts of the =
flesh? This man Moses could have had every woman he desired in the land =
of Egypt. How was he able to tear himself away from the cry of the ego? =
This man could have been King of Egypt. How was he able to tear himself =
away from the power of the flesh?

You have asked that same question: "Oh God, how can I tear myself away =
from the grip that Adam has on my life? How can I?"

The Bible says Moses did it by faith. The Bible says in another place =
that faith is "the victory that overcometh the world" (1 Jn.5:4). It =
says, "All things are possible to him that believeth" (Mk.9:23). You =
say, "Yes, but I can=92t believe; I don=92t seem to have that ability."

Well let us see who else was able to believe.

"By faith the harlot Rahab . . . " (v.31) What . . . you mean a =
prostitute is able to believe God? Someone who had lived that far away =
from light, life, truth, goodness and purity? Maybe my Bible is wrong! =
Does your Bible say the same thing? Is this a misprint? It says, "By =
faith the harlot Rahab . . . "

You love God and are struggling with all your heart to do His will, and =
you think you cannot believe. I tell you, if a harlot=97living outside =
the walls of God=92s will and outside all purity=97can generate faith in =
her heart to believe, why can=92t you? Well, of course you can! You are =
special. You love God; you have been washed in the blood of Christ; you =
have been called into the church. You cannot seem to believe? Of course =
you can!

Now, let us go down a little further (v.32). "And what shall I more say? =
for the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of =
Samson. . . ." Of whom? Samson!? Does your Bible say that? Wasn=92t it =
Samson who was the strongest man in the world at that time physically, =
yet he could not stand before a pretty face? Samson, who forsook his =
Nazarite vow? Samson, who turned his back on the will of God? Samson, =
who laid back in the lap of Delilah and let her seduce him out of =
everything that God had ever given him? Samson, whose great gift was =
strength=97strength that came from God; so mighty in his body that he =
could lift up the gates of the city and win a victory with the jawbone =
of an animal, and yet he sacrificed it in the lap of a seducer? Samson? =
Yes . . . Samson!

David believed (v.32). David?! Political manipulator, adulterer, =
murderer. But David is listed among faith heroes.

Now, what am I saying: The way to faith is to be an outlaw? God forbid! =
I am trying to point out something to you because I know how it is when =
you come up against a faith struggle. If you have a sickness and you are =
praying for healing, if you have a problem and you are praying for =
release and you have prayed for a month or two and the answer doesn=92t =
come, you think: Oh God, something=92s wrong with me. Others can believe =
but I don=92t have the ability. I must have some wicked way in me, or I =
must have some streak of impurity or not be purged of my old carnal =
nature. There must be something wrong. I cannot believe; others can, but =
I cannot.

I don=92t want you to ever forget this: When you go to pray and you have =
got that rod of Moses=97faith=97in your hand, and you are holding it up =
before that problem in your life, before that mountain to make it move, =
I want you to know that David, Samson, and the harlot Rahab were listed =
among faith heroes.

God has given you a gift. You have in your heart and in your mind a =
circumstance, a situation that has plagued you. If it is sin, then use =
your faith to believe that God has already provided forgiveness for you =
through Christ. If it is loneliness, the Bible teaches that through =
faith you can sense the presence of God and know His joy. If it is =
heartaches, the Bible teaches that you can receive the Great Comforter, =
even the Holy Spirit, by faith.

Now, I want you to take that mountain that is looming up before you, =
that situation, that circumstance, that thing that you have been praying =
about for a year but it just hasn=92t budged or moved, that impossible =
thing. I want you to take it and hold it up in your mind=92s eye right =
now and say: "ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE TO HIM THAT BELIEVETH."

When something comes into your life from the hand of the enemy, remember =
what God has given you. Moses had one. Now all Christians have one. HOLD =
UP THAT ROD OF FAITH!!=20
