THE PAIN OF CAIN=20

By "Rebekah" the Bride=20

(Gen.4:1-7; Jn.1:29; 2 Cor.5:17,21; Eph.1:6; 2:8,9; 4:24;=20
Rom.6:11; 10:3,4; Gal.2:20; 5:16; Titus 3:4-6; Heb.11:4)=20
*=20
What pain Cain felt when his God said, "I can't accept your gift."=20
Rejection from his God he felt and pain that would not lift.=20
He'd worked so hard to please the Lord but his work was in vain;=20
For God said, "No, you can't do that!" and that caused him great pain.=20

"Sin lieth at the door," God said, "but, conquer it, you can."=20
Cain's brother Abel, he'd done right for he had brought a lamb.=20
And that's what Cain refused to do, refused, a lamb to bring;=20
Instead he wanted what he'd done to be his offering.=20

Two offerings: a lamb, Cain's works, are symbols here, you see.=20
The lamb, symbolically, is Christ who died at Calvary=20
To make us righteous in God's sight with all sins washed away.=20
No pain for those who trust the Lamb--no fear on Judgment Day.=20

The "pain of Cain" can still be felt by those who want to earn=20
Acceptance from their God by works, they really need to learn=20
That they need to relate to God through Christ, the Lamb God sent.=20
And never through the works they do when earning's their intent.=20

Once we become a child of God we're a creation new;=20
And that new self relates to God in Abel's way, it's true.=20
The old you has been crucified with Christ, by faith we see;=20
But yet it seems so much alive at times, don't you agree?=20

And that old self relates to God exactly just like Cain.=20
The old you tries to earn by works and then you feel that pain.=20
For God says, "No, you can't do that," like Abel you must be;=20
For Abel's like your new creation, yes, symbolically.=20

If I've a day when I do well and I've behaved just right=20
And then I think, because of that, "I'm righteous in God's sight,"=20
Then I am being just like Cain for I've felt that I've earned=20
Acceptance from the Lord that day--like Cain, God's way I've spurned.=20

If I've a day when all goes wrong and feel I've failed God so,=20
And don't feel God accepts me now as through the day I go,=20
Again, I'm being just like Cain, I feel I have not earned=20
Acceptance from the Lord that day--from Cain, I have not learned.=20

Oh, do you live in the old nature that's been crucified?=20
Though you're a new creation and the old, with Christ, has died?=20
Don't base relationship with God on your behavior now;=20
For that's the old you functioning--let Abel teach you how.=20

Believers, you should really choose to walk in the new you;=20
Then you won't base relationship with God on what you do.=20
And you will be like Abel was, so pleasing to your Lord;=20
And you won't feel the pain of Cain as grace is on you poured.=20

Relate to God through the new you, oh, never through the old.=20
The old we reckon crucified as we're in scriptures told.=20
Be just like Abel every day, oh, please don't be like Cain.=20
Live in the new man, not the old, and be free from your pain.=20
