TWO CITIES

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Gal.4:21-30; Gen.17:15-19; 16:1-4, 15; 21:1-3; Jn.15:4, 5;
Eph.2:6; 2 Cor.6:16; Heb.11:10; Rev.21:10)

There are two cities mentioned
In Galatians four, you'll see.
They both are named Jerusalem,
A new and old city.
The New Jerusalem's above;
The old one is below.
They're cities where believers live,
As through this life they go.

One city's filled with freedom;
The one above is free.
The one below's in bondage;
If you live there you'll see.
So few live in the first one,
Though citizens they are.
The one below is filled up;
More people there by far.

These cities are called mothers,
Yes, mothers, both of them.
The mother of us all is called
The New Jerusalem.
The mother that's in bondage
Is the one that is below;
In bondage with her children,
As through this life they go.

To Abraham God promised
A son while here on earth.
His wife, Sarah, was barren;
She felt she'd not give birth.
"Oh, have a son through Hagar,
My maid," Sarah did say.
"Since I'm too old to have one,
This surely is God's way."

So Abraham took Hagar,
And through her had a son;
But that was not the Lord's way
The promised son would come.
Through Sarah, through her dead womb,
Eventually there came
The son that God had promised;
And Isaac was his name.

These mothers in the Bible,
Two cities represent.
There's Hagar and there's Sarah,
Two mothers, so different.
The first son was born natural,
To Hagar, don't you see;
The second son to Sarah,
Born supernaturally.

To struggle by self-effort,
Which is the natural way,
To bring forth fruit in your life,
Yes, trying hard each day,
Is Abraham and Hagar,
It's being just like them.
If you do that, you're living=20
In Old Jerusalem.

Not struggling, but abiding
In Christ, leaning on Him,
Is Abraham and Sarah,
It's being just like them.
Yes, if you live life that way,
Fruit in your life will be,
Produced in New Jerusalem,
Supernaturally.

If you are a believer,
You are a citizen,
Seated in heavenly places
In New Jerusalem.
But, yet, so many Christians
Live life here just as though
They still live in Jerusalem,
The one that is below.

Hagar is called bondwoman,
The natural way, you see.
The Bible says to cast that out;
Live supernaturally.
The fruit of love and joy and peace
God promises to you.
Don't try to bring it forth yourself;
Let God do it, please do.

If you try hard the natural way
To bring forth fruit on earth,
It will be imitation fruit;
To God, it has no worth.
Like Sarah, barren you might be,
But wait on God, you'll see,
That fruit will be born in your life,
Supernaturally.

To live in New Jerusalem,
Experientially,
Is resting in what Christ has done
For you on Calvary.
No struggling to bring forth fruit
In your life anymore;
You'll let Christ live and walk in you,
And you'll bear fruit for sure.
