For they would give and pray and fast for all around to see, So it would look to everyone like they=92d grown spiritually. *** To gain acceptance from the crowd was what their hearts desired. It was like treasure to them all, when they were so admired. But Jesus said to not store up our treasures on this earth. He said that doing what they did was not of heavenly worth. *** So Jesus told us when we all do give and pray and fast, To keep it secret from the world, a treasure that will last. For our reward will come from Him, not from the world around; And when we enter heaven=92s home, our treasure will be found. *** If Christians use the gifts God gives to build an image tall, In heaven there=92ll be no reward, yes, no reward at all. They will have stored a treasure up that they=92ll enjoy on earth; But in their heavenly home they=92ll find it really has no worth. *** Now when those hypocrites of old desired all to see The things they did that seemed so good, that they did publicly, They didn=92t realize this truth, for it was from them hid: It showed they tried to earn God=92s love by those good things they did. *** Now trying to earn acceptance from our peers and those around, By gifts we use and things we do, oh, you, it might astound To just discover this great truth that has been hid from you: It means you really want to earn God=92s love by things you do. *** To try and earn acceptance from the Lord we say we love, Will never store a treasure up for us in heaven above. We=92re only made acceptable to God, oh, yes, it=92s true, By His Son=92s death upon the cross, His death for me and you. *** So storing treasures up on earth is not the thing to do. Don=92t try to earn acceptance from your peers and others, too.
