THE TEST

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Gen.12:1-2; 13:14-16; 15:2-6; 17:15-19; 21:1-3; 22:1-13
2 Chr.20:7; Isa.41:8; Jn.15:13-14; Acts 7:8; Jam.2:23)

***
God called a man named Abraham to do a work for Him.
He was to be the first in a great nation he=92d begin.
God promised Abraham a son and from that son would come
A Hebrew nation called the Jews through which would come God=92s Son.
***
The calling that this man of old had was his "ministry":
To have a son from which would come a nation that would be
The nation through which one great day the Savior of the world
Would come into the human race--God=92s love would be unfurled.
***
A child was born to Abraham, and Isaac was his name,
To start this Jewish nation great through which our Savior came.
The mother, Sarah, of this boy was ninety years of age;
And ten years older was his dad when entering history=92s stage.
***
Through Abraham and Isaac, then through Jacob, Isaac=92s son,
And through twelve sons of Jacob did the Jewish nation come;
And after many years had passed, eventually, one day,
Through this great nation Jesus came to take our sins away!
***
This calling that was Abraham=92s, to become Isaac=92s dad,
Was brought about by God alone for God=92s the one who had
The power to give his wife a son--they were so elderly.
The glory went to God alone for Abraham=92s "ministry."
***
So if you=92ve had a calling, perhaps a call to ministry,
It will be brought about by God, yes, supernaturally.
Your ministry, it is the Lord=92s, not really yours, you know;
But here=92s a question: Just suppose God asks you, "Let it go"?
***
God asked the same of Abraham: "Give up your "ministry";
Lay Isaac on the altar, sacrifice your son to Me."
If Isaac died there would not be a nation of the Jews.
This calling that was Abraham=92s, it seemed he=92d surely lose.
***
We know that Abraham said "yes" and went about to kill
His son, really his "ministry" that had been in God=92s will.
We know that God stopped Abraham for he had passed the test.
God said, "My friend, is Abraham, a friend that is the best."
***
Would you give up a work for God if Jesus asked you to?
Would you say "yes," would you say "no"--I=92m not sure what I=92d do.
But giving it up willingly and letting it all end,
Is just the way to show the Lord you really are His friend.
***
Is God enough all by Himself or do you need to be
Involved in doing things for Him--to have a ministry?
It=92s great to be used by the Lord and serve your God with zest;
But if God asked, "Just give it up," would you then pass the test?
***
To just find out that God=92s enough apart from ministry,
Is what the Heavenly Father wants His children all to see.
And when you know that God alone is all you really need,
Then you have really passed the test and you=92re God=92s friend, =
indeed.
