This Day's a rest just for the soul,God offers us with love. The human soul just longs for rest;It's what it's searching for. This gift of rest's availableTo all--both rich and poor. Now, I was taught when I was young,And maybe you were, too, That Sunday was the sabbath day,A day of rest for you. Or maybe it was SaturdayThat was your special day; A day for worshiping the Lord,To read God's word and pray. Some say, "The sabbath's Saturday,That is the day God meant." "No, Sunday is the day that's right,"Some say, with good intent. But you might be surprised to findThat it's not either one. It's not a day as we know days,From dawn to setting sun. Before Christ died and rose again,There was one special day. The seventh day of every week,About it, God did say: "Six days a week do all your work,And on the seventh one, Cease from your labors, take a rest;No work is to be done." That sabbath day before Christ cameWas just symbolic of The Day that Christ would usher in,The Day God showed His love By letting Christ die on the crossOur punishment to take; And bringing Him back from the dead,A Sabbath Day to make. Since then, the Sabbath Day is notA twenty-four hour one. It is a never ending DayFor all who love God's Son. And just like on that sabbath dayOf old, when God said, "Rest," This rest continues every day.This is life at its best. It is a Day that you can restFrom all you've tried to do To make yourself alright with God;Christ has done that FOR you. Oh, what a rest for your dear soul,An endless Sabbath Day. It will go on forevermore;"How wonderful," I say. Now, every day's a Sabbath DayFor those who love the Lord. It's really good to knowThat all believers can afford To rest in what Christ's done for them,His finished work, each day Because of what He did for them,With God they are okay. So if you want to take a dayTo worship God with love With those who've let the Savior in,Who've been born from above, That's great, but just remember this:The Sabbath Day goes on; The other days you're not in church,To Sabbath they belong. This is the Day the Lord has made;Be glad and just rejoice. Rest from your works and enter in;Oh, please, make that good choice. Christ finished all the work for youTo save and keep your soul. There's not one thing that you can do;The Lord has made you whole. The Sabbath Rest belongs to allBelievers on this earth. Yet so few really enter it,Though they've had the new birth. The Bible says to fear thatWe'll miss out on this great Rest. If we miss out, we'll still be saved,But life won't be the best. Oh, Christian, you can enter inThat Sabbath Rest today.
