In quietness and confidence Will be your strength each day. Beside still waters God will lead, The Good Shepherd is He. A quiet and a peaceful life, God wants for you and me. The world's way's not a quiet way; We all know that is true. There's hustle, bustle, hurrying, That's what so many do. The noise of traffic, music, speech, The workplace with its sound, All drives away the quietness; It hardly can be found. Some people don't like quietness; It's hard for them to take. They seem to want the noise around Most times when they're awake. It seems to meet a need inside, One that is deep within: That need to run away from God, To push away from Him. Their Great Creator wants to show That He just loves them so. If they are quiet long enough, It's what He'll let them know. At least, He'll try, yet He'll not force These ones this truth to see; And He'll not shout above the noise, For He speaks quietly. A gentle and a quiet spirit Inside you, you see, Is very precious to the Lord; Adornment inwardly. Outward adornment's not what counts; What counts is what's within. A quiet spirit inside you Is valuable to Him. If we want strength to live this life, It's found in quietness. "Oh, come apart with Me," God says, "And your life I will bless." He longs to do that anyway, But hindrances there'll be, If we don't quiet down in life; And blessings we'll not see. A crust of bread that's very dry With quietness in life, Is better than a house that's filled With uproar and with strife. Oh, study to be quiet now, Is what the Word does say. It's something you can learn to be, As you calm down each day. God's children all kept quiet, As they walked around that wall. In Jericho, what silence Just before the wall did fall! If you've a "wall" in your life That you want to tumble down, Then come into the quietness; With God, just hang around. It's in a still small voice God speaks, So how can people hear, If they don't quiet down enough To have a listening ear? Our Great Creator loves to have His words to us get through, For they bring hope and peace and joy To strengthen and renew. Some have no choice, they have to be Where noise is all around; But, hopefully, some time each day, Some quiet can be found. If your heart longs for quietness, Then seek that every day. Your God will honor that desire; Somehow He'll make a way. Sometimes in life things happen, And we're forced to quiet down; A blessing in disguise, maybe? I know it's what I've found. So take advantage of that time, If that happens to you. Be still and know that I am God,
Is what the Scriptures say.
In quietness and confidence
