PUT AWAY CHILDISH THINGS

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(1 Corinthians 13:11)

***
There are some things that children do when they are very small,
that when they're grown they never do, they never do at all.
When you grow up, you lay aside those childish things you did,
and act mature, not like a child, for you are not a kid.
***
At least, that really is the way it is supposed to be;
when you are grown, it's time for you to reach maturity.
The childish things you understood when you were just a kid,
should fall away when you are old, those childish things you did.
***
Paul said that when he was a child he thought as children do,
but when he grew to be a man then grown up things he knew.
He put away those childish things he'd thought and understood,
and acted with maturity, the way a grown up should.
***
What did Paul mean when he said that he put those things away?
Those childish things he spoke and thought in his past childhood day?
Paul spoke those words to you and me to show us we should grow,
to help us to mature in Christ in this life here below.
***
Oh, Christian, if you've known the Lord for years and years and years,
you need to grow up in Him now and be free from your fears.
Those fears that wonder, "When I die, will I to heaven go?
I don't know if I've done things right as I've walked here below."
***
You need to see that you're not saved by good things you have done;
but only by your faith in Christ, your faith in God the Son.
For He has made you right with God by His blood that He shed.
He died for you upon that cross--for your sins He has bled.
***
When you base your relationship with God on what you do,
instead of on what Christ has done on Calvary's cross for you,
it means your faith is not grown up, you need to grow some more.
Believe Christ did it all for you, then you will be mature.
***
When you build your own righteousness by trying to be good,
the Word says it's a filthy rag or stubble, hay and wood.
"Your righteousness shall be of Me," our precious Lord does say;
so be a man and you will put those childish things away.
***
So are you willing to believe there's nothing you can do
to make God be at peace with you and earn acceptance, too?
It's all been done by Christ the Lord, a gift you did receive.
The only thing for you to do is really just believe.
