Oh, what a glorious life we'd live, If we would our attention give To those words that our Savior said; Those words in Matthew that I read. * Come unto Christ, He'll give you rest; Rest for your soul, the very best. Rest from the works you try to do To keep your God at peace with you. His peace, a gift that you receive, The moment that you just believe That all the work for peace was done Upon the cross by Christ, God's Son. * Yes, peace will flood over your soul The day that you give up control Of all the things you try to do To keep the Lord at peace with you. An easy yoke, a burden light, To carry round both day and night; A way to walk, a way of life, That sets you free from fear and strife. * Peace is a gift, it can't be earned; Surprisingly, some have not learned This precious truth about God's peace. They really need a great release. When Christians have no peace within, It shows they need to just begin To hear God's words afresh, anew: "My child, I am at peace with you." * Some might say, "Lord, my life's a mess; I cannot see how you can bless Me with Your peace, no, I can't see How You can be at peace with me!" But yet He is, thanks to His Son; For on His cross that peace was won For you, for me-a total gift, That makes a heavy burden lift. * The prodigal who left his home, And lived in sin where he did roam, Came home, and then he really knew- His father showed him it was true- That his dad stayed at peace with him, Though he had strayed and lived in sin. Your Heavenly Father's that way, too; He'll always be at peace with you. * A gift is something you can't earn, So if your life's a mess, please learn; Yes, "Learn of Me," the Savior said. "My peace I GIVE you," this I read. John fourteen says it, just believe, And like a child, God's peace receive. He'll straighten out the mess for you; That's what your God of peace will do. * The world is looking for this rest With which believers have been blessed; This easy yoke, this burden light, To have God's peace both day and night. But it's so sad-a tragedy- To in a Christian's life not see This peace Christ suffered so to give, As on this earth believers live. * The Bride of Christ must really learn That she can never ever earn God's peace by her behavior good; For that's just stubble, hay and wood. The world is longing just to see Believers living peacefully, For then there's some who will believe; And they will God's great peace receive. * And you can enter God's great rest, An easy yoke, a way that's best, If you will give up your control And let God's peace reign in your soul. And that is where it'll always stay; He'll never take His peace away, For it's a gift, something not earned.
