NO BURDEN ON THE SABBATH

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Jeremiah 17:21-23)
(Isa.9:6; Heb.4:1-11; Matt.1:21; Jn.1:12; 3:3-7; 10:27-29; 14:27;
Eph.1:6; 2:8-9; Rom.5:17; 2 Cor.5:21; Prov.3:5-6)

***
"No burden on the Sabbath, no burden on that day,"
the Lord said to His people, "no burden come what may.
No load for on your shoulders on that day, no not one.
Just don't let any burden upon your shoulders come."
***
"Don't carry forth a burden out of your house that day.
No working on the Sabbath, I want you to obey.
Take heed, don't bear a burden, don't bring it through the gate.
Don't enter in the city with any heavy weight."
***
God said this to His people in Jeremiah's day.
"Hear ye God's word," he told them, but they did not obey.
No, they just would not listen, this message to receive.
Their necks then they did stiffen, refusing to believe.
***
As Christians, do we carry a burden on that day?
A burden on the Sabbath, has that become our way?
Are we a stiff-necked people or do our ears incline
to hear that there's no burden for your shoulders or mine?
***
Before Christ died and rose up, the Sabbath was one day.
The seventh day each week then, about it, God did say,
"No carrying a burden, no work on that day-none."
As you can see, that day then was such a special one.
***
But that day was symbolic of a Day up ahead;
a Day that Christ would bring in, when He rose from the dead.
A Day of rest forever in which Christians can live.
A never ending Sabbath, the Lord, to us, did give.
***
Now every day's the Sabbath for those who do believe;
for born again believers, those ones who did receive
the Savior into their hearts-He's saved them from their sin.
And now, in Christ, they all can that Sabbath Day, live in.
***
No burden should we carry on this new Sabbath Day.
If we do, we are stiff-necked, for God we don't obey.
So now, "work" on the Sabbath is something not to do;
but what is the true meaning of that, for me-for you?
***
The work that you're to cease from is things you try to do
to maintain the salvation that God has GIVEN you.
And righteousness He GAVE you when you received His Son.
In this Eternal Sabbath, the work for that's been done.
***
The gift of peace Christ GAVE you, peace between you and God.
You can't maintain that either as through this life you trod.
To do that's such a burden, Christ maintains that FOR you.
To have peace you don't work for, seems too good to be true.
***
It's such a heavy burden when you work hard to earn
acceptance from your dear Lord, it shows you need to learn
that's working on the Sabbath, don't be stiff-necked-obey.
That burden, please, don't carry on God's great Sabbath Day.
***
Let God handle your life now, that burden's not on you.
Let Him guide your decisions in everything you do.
If offering God your service, make sure it's what God planned.
God's Sabbath Day's so restful for He is in command.
***
As we observe the Sabbath, correctly, all the time,
a heavy load will lift off our shoulders-yours and mine.
We won't be like God's people in Jeremiah's day.
Observance of the Sabbath will be done in God's way.
