For they've discovered something great; I know I have, at any rate. It has to do with how they walk; It's real to them, it's not just talk. A way of walkin' that is new; So good some can't believe it's true. The way of walkin' that is old Is disappearing fast, I'm told. Just one glimpse of the way that's new Is so exciting-restful, too- That to the old they won't go back. They really want to get the knack Of walkin' in this great new way; This way of walkin's here to stay. I once walked in the way that's old, But now I wouldn't trade for gold This new way, not for anything; A new song I've begun to sing. Blinded for years, in bondage kept, So bound up that, at times, I wept; But weeping now has gone away, Replaced by joy that's here to stay. I walked a tightrope lots of years, Because I had so many fears That God would punish me if I Did not with His good will comply. I was so blind, I could not see, That God will never punish me; For at the cross my judgment fell On Jesus Christ, I'm glad to tell. I thought God would get mad at me, If I failed Him on earth, you see. I struggled hard, His peace to earn. In my walk I did not discern That peace is GIVEN by the Lord; His peace to me's not a reward For good behavior, oh, my, no. This gift He did on me bestow. My righteousness I tried to earn By what I did, I had to learn That doing that was just like Cain, Who came to God with this one aim: To work for his own righteousness; A way the Lord can NEVER bless. My righteousness IS Christ the Lord. When I saw that my spirit soared. The way I'd walked, it seemed so right; I thought I walked by God's dear Light. Influenced by my carnal mind, I thought, This way is the right kind. "The old is better," many say; The new they don't want right away. But time is short, I hope you know; The new way is the way to go. So many Christians, all their life, Have walked the old way-oh, what strife! But some are catching on like me; This new way they've begun to see. And once this new way they just taste, They say, "Oh my, oh, what a waste! That old way took my joy away; I'll walk this new way, come what may." No longer working for God's peace; My work for righteousness, I cease. No fear of judgment, that's all gone; A new highway I'm walkin' on. No shouldering a heavy load, As I walk on this great new road. Relating to the Lord above The proper way-just through His love. New way of walkin', have you heard? It's written down within God's Word. Believers are discovering This way to walk that makes them sing. Old Covenant, God did replace With a new one based on His grace; A firm and solid way to walk, Not on the sand but on the Rock. Yes, many Christians talkin' now About this way of walkin'-wow! They were so blind but now they see; At last they feel they've been set free. Relationship with God's a gift, Maintained by Him-oh, what a lift It gives to Christians, old and new, To know that it's what God will do. Our God will comfort all who mourn; He'll comfort those who've been reborn. Garments of praise will now replace A heavy spirit-oh, what grace! The new way has replaced the old; Beauty for ashes in God's fold. That doing that was = just like=20 Cain,
Who came to God with = this one=20 aim:
To work for his own=20 righteousness;
A way the Lord can = NEVER=20 bless.
My righteousness IS = Christ the=20 Lord.
When I saw that my = spirit=20 soared.
 
The way I’d = walked, it seemed so=20 right;
I thought I walked by = God’s dear=20 Light.
Influenced by my = carnal=20 mind,
I thought, This way = is the right=20 kind.
