A NEEDLESS BURDEN

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Isa.45:24; 54:17; 61:10-11; 64:6; Jer.23:6=20
Rom.5:17; 10:3-4,10; 2 Cor.3:3; 5:21)

***
There is a needless burden that God's children carry round.
At least, it seems that many do for it's what I have found.
I carried this one round myself for many, many years.
It was a heavy one to bear and filled my heart with fears.
***
When Jesus died upon the cross, God made Him to be sin.
Past, present, future, all of them, our sins were laid on Him.
It was so that we could be made the righteousness of God;
And thinking we must maintain that is thinking that is flawed.
***
Yes, it's maintaining righteousness that is the load some bear.
This great responsibility just loads us down with care.
To try and maintain righteousness is such a heavy load;
A needless one to carry as we walk along life's road.
***
Do you have times when everything just seems to go so right?
You feel that you have done God's will all through the day and night?
And do you feel you're righteous then because you've been so good?
Then you are wrong, if you think that, you have not understood.
***
And then do you have days when everything just goes awry?
You say and do things that are wrong, "Oh, what a day!" you sigh?
And do you feel less righteous then because you have been bad?
Again, you're wrong, if you think that--"Mistaken," I might add.
***
God's righteousness, this gift from Him, can't be maintained by you
By good things that you do or say--do you believe that's true?
You cannot take away from it by your behavior bad.
It's treasure that is more secure than anything you've had.
***
Most Christians are convinced about salvation being free;
They know because Christ Jesus died, they will in heaven be.
But that same cross that makes them saved has made them righteous, too.
They both are gifts that aren't maintained by things they say or do.
***
I can't maintain that righteousness by things I do or say,
Or by the things I never do, it just is not God's way.
To just trust in Christ's righteousness is humbling for me.
It means I must give up control and trust this gift that's free.
***
"Convict these Christians of their sins! "I've heard some preachers say;
But why is it we do not hear these preachers like this pray:
"Convince these Christians that You've made them righteous in Your =
sight!
The work has all been done by Christ, with God they are alright."
***
"Oh, write this truth upon the fleshy tables of our heart!
Then, Lord, it will be real to us and will not from us part.
Our lives will show forth righteousness but it won't be our own.
We'll not take credit for this then, we'll know it's Yours alone."
***
Submit yourself to righteousness, the righteousness of God.
Establish not your own because your own is really flawed.
Believing unto righteousness, you do that with your heart.
The burden of maintaining it will from you then depart!
