It's an example for us all; A lesson of great worth. It had to do with sacrifice, One offered to the Lord. A sacrifice "more excellent"; One that brought great reward. Now Abel was the second son Of Adam and of Eve. Cain was the first but Abel was The one God did receive; Because when he approached the Lord With sacrifice in hand, It was a lamb whose blood was shed, Which met the Lord's demand. His brother Cain approached the Lord With things that he had done, Not with the sacrificial lamb; The right way, he'd not come. And that is why the Lord did not Receive the eldest one. He would not go and get the lamb, And to God humbly come. The sacrifice that Abel brought Was "a more excellent" one Than Cain's, for Cain's was not a lamb, But works that he had done. Cain did not want to bring the lamb, As Abel did that day; And that's why Abel was received, But Cain was turned away. Now, Jesus is the Lamb of God, And He has shed His blood Upon the cross for the whole world, So that our God can flood His mercy on each one of us On each and every day. We come to God through the slain Lamb; It is the "excellent" way. The Lamb of God was slain from the Foundation of the world; But that event in history Was only just unfurled About two thousand years ago, Revealed in time and space: The death of Christ, God's precious Lamb, Slain for the human race. There's power in Christ's sacrifice, For it's the only way To come to God, through Christ the Lamb; It's in Christ's name I pray. The Mediator Jesus is Between my God and me. "More excellent" is Abel's way Than Cain's could ever be. The Bible says that Abel had A witness deep within, That he was righteous in God's sight; God did not see his sin. And that's because he only came To God the proper way, With the slain lamb whose blood was shed. It's still the same today.=20 So many Christians say, "I know I'm righteous in God's sight"; And yet some cling to their good works, So they'll with God be right. That is Cain's way, it just is not The way that Abel went. "More excellent" it's surely not; That's very evident. Don't base your righteous standing with The Lord on what you do. The sacrifice of God's dear Lamb GIVES righteousness to you. Come boldly to your God through Christ, And then you'll never fear Rejection from your precious Lord; You'll sense His presence near. Oh, be like Abel, not like Cain, Approach the Lord each day By trusting that the Lamb of God Has opened up the way. You're not received by God because Of righteous works you do; But only by the Savior's death, Upon the cross for you. Oh, Christian, do you really know You're righteous in God's sight? Now, not just in your mind but in Your heart you know that's right? Like Abel, just relate to God, Not by the things you do; But by the way "more excellent": Christ's sacrifice for you.
