A LOAD NOT TO BEAR

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(2 Cor.6:16; Phil.2:13; Matt.11:30;=20
Gal.2:21; 3:10-13; Jn.1:17; 1 Cor.15:56)

There is a heavy load to bear some Christians carry round,
That is not placed there by their Lord, it's not from Him, I've found.
It oftentimes is carried by the ones in ministry;
A load to bear that seems okay but is not right, you see.

There are pastors and evangelists, deacons and elders, too,
Some leaders in the church whose hearts are so sincere and true,
A minister, a teacher, one who shares the word with us,
Some of them feel that God to them this burden did entrust.

This burden is a heavy load though some don't realize,
That God is saying, "That's not good to carry, that's not wise."
This weight will make them weary as they run the Christian race.
This burden's not an easy one, it just is not the case.

There was a precious child of God who lived under my roof.
Quite young in Christ, so full of faith, her life was living proof,
That God can truly change someone when they give Him control.
He'd transformed her by His great power, made her completely whole.

One day she told me of something that she was going to do.
I felt her choice was, oh, so wrong now that she'd been made new.
All night I worried over her, I could not sleep at all.
Her walk with Christ had been so good but now, maybe, she'd fall!

But in the early morning hours my Lord's voice spoke clearly:
"You've made yourself responsible for My child's walk with Me."
He told me that was not my job but it was His to do.
"You can't control this dear child's walk, this burden's not for you."

He also said, "If you take on responsibility
For this girl's walk, it means you do that for yourself, you see;
And I'm the One who lives in you and walks in you each day.
That's My responsibility, it really is My way."=20

I felt a load lift from my life when God spoke that to me.
God's peace came in and then I felt this worry from me flee.
It's Christ's job, now I realize, to live and walk through me;
And others' walks, they are not my responsibility.

Some Christian leaders feel that it's their job, one they're to do,
To keep the flock of God in line--some of them think it's true
That they should be responsible, that it is their duty,
To help God's sheep, His precious ones, to help them stay sin-free.

To keep their flock from doing this some leaders preach the law.
Instead of preaching grace to them, they think grace has a flaw;
And that's that grace, too much of it, will not keep Christians from
Sins of the flesh that they might do, that they'll not overcome.

But what some do not realize is what the scriptures say:
That law is what will make sin strong in their lives every day.
But grace is just the opposite though it might not seem true;
Grace will bring forth obedience in those who want it to.

To share God's word, wise guidance give, as God is leading you;
To pray, sometimes to warn the flock, is always right to do.
But trying to control them to good choices always make,
Is not a load for you to bear but one for God to take.
