LEANING ON GOD

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Gen.3:1-6; Deut.33:27; Prov.3:5; S.of S.8:5; Isa.41:18; Ezek.18:4
 Jn.1:12; 3:16; 21:20; Rom.5:1,12; 6:23; 2 Cor.5:21; Eph.2:8-9)

***
To lean on God is not something that you do naturally.
Your human nature likes to function independently.
On people, perhaps, you lean a lot or on yourself, you do;
But leaning on the Lord does not come natural to you.
***
"God helps all those who help themselves," I've heard so many say.
"It's in the Bible," someone said to me the other day.
But that's not true for I can't find it there within that Book.
If you can find it, let me know, just tell me where to look.
***
The choice was made in Paradise to not lean on the Lord.
The two believed the devil's lie, what God said was ignored.
The devil made it sound so good to independent be;
To not lean on the Lord seemed right--they chose to be God-free.
***
This attitude has been passed down to each of us today.
That's why the world's in such a mess--from God we've gone astray.
It hasn't worked, this way we've gone, let's face it, it is true.
Let's turn around and say to God, "Lord, we will lean on You."
***
"The soul that sinneth, it shall die," the Scriptures to us say;
And sin is independence, yes, sin is this God-free way.
But Christ became our substitute and He died in our place,
Making forgiveness available to the whole human race.
***
Salvation is a gift that God GIVES us, believe it's true.
We must lean on the Lord for that, there's nothing we can do
To save our souls, it's done for us by God, through Christ His Son.
And if we have received this gift, God's children we've become.
***
And though we are God's children, we still can make a choice
To live each day in our own way, not listening to God's voice.
God will not force us, we must choose, to learn on Him to lean;
And if we do, we'll have a life, the likes we've never seen!
***
God's love, God's peace, God's righteousness are gifts He GIVES to you.
Don't try to conjure up your own, just lean on His, please do.
He loves you unconditionally, with you He has made peace.
He's made you righteous in His sight, so work for that can cease.
***
Have you been in the "wilderness" for many, many years?
You are God's child, but, yet your life is filled with many tears?
Could it be you're still struggling in this God-free part of you,
Instead of leaning on the Lord in everything you do?
***
To lean on God is wonderful, it is a way of rest.
To live your life in your own strength is not a way that's best.
If that's what you've been doing, give it up, then be assured
You'll come out of the wilderness just leaning on your Lord.
***
God's arms are underneath you and they hold you up each day.
His arms are everlasting and He'll not take them away.
So lean and rest upon them for they never will fail you.
Just learn to lean upon your God in everything you do.
