They called her Lazy Lily for she labored not, you see. She rested in the finished work Christ did on Calvary. Some of the Christians round her were not lazy, they worked hard; And so they felt that Lily really had let down her guard. "There's toiling and there's spinning that you really need to do!" But Lily would not listen and she said, "That's just not true." "I am a Lazy Lily, I don't toil, I don't spin. I don't work, for the works been done, it's all been done by Him. Yes, my Lord has done everything, there's nothing left to do," Said Lily to those workers, "And it's also done for you!" "I'm planted in God's garden and my roots go deep in Him. The "Son" shines on me daily and His Spirit "reigns" within. And I am clothed in righteousness, not mine, but God's alone. I rest in His, I will not work to try to build my own." Less traveled is the road that Lazy Lily walks upon. The High Road, not the low road, is the one she travels on. No crowds to travel with her on this Highway Lily chose, But Christ is always with her as along this path she goes. A bride at rest like Lily is what Christ is longing for, For then He can work through her and His love through her will pour. He'll work through her when she's at rest, a paradox it seems. His fruitful work through her will come as on His breast she leans. We need more Lilies in the church who live life restfully. Self-effort, burn out, striving hard, should from Christ's Body flee. All ye that labor come unto the Lord and you'll find rest. Your spirit's fine but, oh, your soul needs Lily's way--it's best. Consider the field lily, how it doesn't spin and toil. It shows me how I'll really grow while planted in God's soil. No working hard to try to grow as I give up control, And let God do that work for me--His rest then floods my soul. Oh, be like Lazy Lily, what a rest you'll come into! Just take the road less traveled even if no others do.
