INTIMACY

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Song of Solomon 5:1-6; Revelation 3:20)

***
The maid in Song of Solomon had gone to sleep one night;
And though she slept, her heart awoke to hear, with great delight:
"Please open to me, sister dear, My undefiled, My dove."
This was the shepherd's voice she heard--with her he was in love.
***
She did not get up right away to let the shepherd in.
She'd washed her feet and was afraid she'd dirty them again.
And yet she so desired him, her heart for him did long.
She finally opened up the door but found that he was gone.
***
She was so sad that he had left--wherever did he go?
She could not find him anywhere though she looked high and low.
She called, but he no answer gave, oh, how she wished that she
Had let him in when he'd first knocked so she could with him be.
***
I've often wondered why the shepherd did not hang around;
And when she went to seek for him, why could he not be found?
He longed for her; she longed for him, but yet he did not stay
Outside the door to wait for her--why did he go away?
***
Believers, there's a lesson here I pray that you will see,
Especially if you long to know your Shepherd intimately.
Christ is your Shepherd and He longs to have an open door
To enter in and be with you and on you His love pour.
***
The maid in Solomon's Song, she took responsibility
For keeping her feet nice and clean so undefiled she'd be;
And in my walk with my dear Lord, I find I've done that, too.
I've tried to keep my walk sin-free, I've taken charge--have you?
***
"My undefiled" the shepherd called the maid in Solomon's Song.
The Shepherd, Christ, calls us that, too, for we to Him belong.
When she took charge of keeping her walk undefiled, you see,
Her shepherd lover went away, there was no intimacy.
***
If you take charge of keeping your walk clean from sin each day;
If you do that, then you should know you're walking the wrong way.
Christ is the only One who keeps His Bride on earth sin-free;
And that's what you must let Him do, if you want intimacy.
***
What does it mean to take control of keeping our feet clean?
To try and cleanse our Christian walk, what does it really mean?
It means that we work hard so we'll be righteous in God's sight.
We try to keep our God appeased by doing what is right.
***
But you will surely fail at that, for it cannot be done.
Oh, righteousness, it is a gift that comes from God's dear Son.
You cannot keep your God appeased by good things that you do.
That's all been done on Calvary by God's Son, Christ, for you.
***
Oh, how the Shepherd loves His spouse--believer, that means you!
With you, a close relationship He longs to have, it's true.
And if your heart desires that, be willing to let go;
And let Christ be responsible for your walk here below.
***
Behold, your Lord at your heart's door, He stands and knocks on it.
If you will hear and open up, He'll come and with you sit.
He'll feed your soul, He'll dine with you, so very blessed you'll be
By your dear Lord, right here on earth, you'll have that intimacy.
