GOD'S GARDEN

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Isa.27:2-3; 1 Cor.3:9; 2 Cor.3:6; Jn.6:63; 15:1,8; 1 Kin.19:12;
Matt.13:3-8, 18-23; Heb.3:7-12; 4:6; Ps.62:10)

God has a garden that He loves, one He tends faithfully.
He is a Gardener and He does His work so perfectly.
We are His garden, all of us who love the Lord, you know.
It pleases God so very much to see His garden grow.

The heart of each believer is the soil, don't you see;
It is the ground where our God plants His seed in you and me.
The seed, it is the word God speaks, that seed gets planted there.
Within the soil of the heart He plants His seed with care.

The seed is not the letter of the word, I hope you know.
The Bible says the letter kills and does not help us grow.
The words that God speaks, they are life and they are spirit, too;
And since they're energized by Him, a work in us they'll do.

So we can read the literal letter of the word each day.
The letter will bring forth no fruit in our lives, come what may.
God's word, it must be quickened by the Spirit in our heart.
Dependence on our Gardener is the place for us to start.

The word God speaks can come to us in many ways, you know:
The Bible; perhaps a circumstance that we're in here below;
A still small voice within the heart; a dream; what others speak;
Through nature or a book we read; we'll hear it if we seek.

There is some thing that keeps the word from entering the heart.
The Bible calls it unbelief, it makes God's word depart.
It makes the garden soil hard, the seed cannot get down
Within the soil of the heart because of hardened ground.

Believer, if you'll hear God's voice, oh, harden not your heart.
Oh, please, believe what your God says to help the seed to start
To sink down deep into the soil so fruit can then appear;
And show forth in you more and more as you live life down here.

Deceitfulness of riches and the cares of life each day,
Can choke the seed like thorns would do and keep God's fruit away.
And persecution for your faith or tribulation, too,
Can be like stones within the soil so fruit won't show in you.

God's garden soil of the heart in each of us should be
Free from our unbelief and from our trust in our money.
The "stones" of persecution and the "thorny" cares and strife,
Don't let them hurt God's words that come to bring fruit in your life.

Oh, do you wonder why some Christians never seem to grow?
There's something in the soil of their heart that makes that so.
A good and honest heart, it is the only one, you see,
Where God's word can produce the fruit God wants in you and me.

An honest heart is in that one who loves God's truth, you see.
A hundred, sixty, thirty fold in that life fruit will be.
In that heart there will surely be no hardness, thorn or stone.
The Gardener will be glorified by seed that He has sown.
