THE GOD I KNEW

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(1 Jn.1:9; Jam.4:8; Ps.46:10; Jer.17:9
Rom.8:35-39; Jn.15:15; Isa. 53:6)

***
Before I came to Jesus Christ I had a mighty fear;
A fear about the Father God if I dared get too near.
I thought if I got close to Him that He would want me to
Do work for Him that was so hard-this was the God I knew.
***
I thought that perhaps I'd have to go to Africa for Him,
And live a life of poverty so souls there I could win;
And thinking that's what He might want instilled in me a fear
That kept me far away from Him, afraid to get too near.
***
The time came when in spite of this I heard Him to me call;
And I could not resist His voice, could not resist at all.
This just was the appointed time for me to come to Him.
Into my heart He came to dwell and cleansed me from my sin.
***
When I saw that Christ loved me so, that He died for my sin,
As time went by, I then began to fall in love with Him.
It really was an easy thing to draw close to God's Son;
But somehow from my Father God, away from Him I'd run.
***
But finally I discovered that my heart to me had lied
About my Heavenly Father God, away from whom I'd shied.
I entered into quietness and there I heard His voice,
And then I saw that running really was a foolish choice.
***
I saw that His great love for me will never, never end,
And that He's not my enemy but really is my Friend.
He always, always roots for me and He is on my side.
He just wants what is best for me and in me He'll abide.
***
I saw He'll never punish me for wrong things I have done.
My punishment He laid on Christ, on Christ, His only Son;
And when this life is over here with Him I'll ever be
In that dear home in heaven where I'll live eternally.
***
Now if your Heavenly Father God has work for you to do,
It will be something that you'll love, something that's right for you.
But there's a higher calling, yes, it's what He wants, it's true;
And that's to let Him shed His love, His precious love on you.
***
The Father says, "Be still and know that I am God, please do."
Don't stay so far away from Him-draw near, He'll speak to you.
It is the only way to know the nature of your God.
If you choose to draw near to Him, that choice He will applaud.
***
The God I know is different from the God I thought I knew.
Just maybe thoughts you have of Him are wrong like mine were, too.
The closer that you get to Him, this truth you'll really see:
The Father is so wonderful-with Him you'll want to be.
