If you’ve a room within your house

In which there is no light,

The shades are pulled, the curtains closed,

The day, it seems like night;

And if you want the room to be

Filled with the light of day,

Just open curtains, pull up shades.

The dark will flee away.

It matters not if darkness fills

A room for fifty years,

Or if it is a day or two

Before the light appears;

Inside that room, when light comes in

To turn night into day,

The instant that the light comes in,

The darkness flees away.

Our souls are like that room so dark;

They’ve been made dark by sin.

But God sent Christ who is the Light

To light our souls within.

So open up the curtains of your soul,

And then please say:

"Oh, Christ, come in and make

My sinful darkness flee away."

It matters not how long there’s been

A darkness in your soul.

You may be ten or forty,

Or, perhaps, you’re very old.

It only takes an instant

For God’s Light to take away

The darkness that has plagued your soul,

And set you free today.

The Light of Christ is powerful;

The darkness has to flee.

The darkness cannot stay around;

Light make us darkness-free.

And when we open up our hearts

And let Christ in us dwell,

The Light then shines inside of us;

With our soul all is well.

The Light of Christ stays in your soul,

But sometimes you will find

That darkness in the form of lies

Will come against your mind.

God’s truth’s a weapon you can use

To flood those lies with Light.

Then they, like darkness, go away;

They just have to take flight.

All darkness that attacks your mind

Is made out of a lie

That you believe mistakenly;

At times it makes you cry.

But when God’s truth comes in on you

To flood the lie with Light,

The lie, like darkness, goes away.

It just has to take flight.

The truth that God is with you now,

And that He loves you so,

Is Light that makes the darkness flee;

It makes the darkness go.

So know God’s truth, live in the Light,

And you’ll begin to see

The darkness that attacks your mind

Will from you have to flee.
