I have a pair of shoes I love;

So comfortable are they.

I like to wear them all the time,

To wear them every day.

Though I have several other pairs,

These are my favorite shoes;

And my walk is so comfortable,

When these ones I do choose.

 

These shoes I love are physical,

But they remind me of

A different kind of shoes I wear;

A spiritual kind I love.

The Bible tells about these shoes,

Which can be worn each day;

They’re shoes that make our walk on earth

So easy, Scriptures say.

 

They’re fashioned by the Hand of God,

Because Christ Jesus paid

Our debt of sin, yes, all of it;

Our sins, on Christ, God laid.

Because Christ died and rose again,

Each one can have these shoes.

They must be worn, by faith, each day

By Christians—if they choose.

 

The punishment that we deserve,

Because we’re sinners, all,

God put upon a substitute;

On Jesus it did fall.

And that’s why we, if we believe,

Can walk a peaceful way.

The shoes of peace, God offers us

To walk in every day.

 

To walk through life and know that God

Thinks peaceful thoughts toward me,

And that His Son has earned this peace

That I now have for free,

Is just amazing, for I know

I don’t deserve this peace.

My thankfulness for this good gift,

I never want to cease.

 

The world is looking for this peace,

Which seems so hard to find,

Because there’s blindness covering up

Their unbelieving mind.

The world’s way is the opposite;

It thinks God’s peace is earned.

But that’s a lie, God’s peace is free;

The world’s thoughts should be spurned.

 

Your sins aren’t held against you, world!

This is the news that’s good.

Your sins God laid upon His Son;

It’s time you understood

That Jesus took your punishment.

He took your place—it’s true!

Repent, believe, God offers peace

To you . . . and you . . . and you!

 

And when you really know that’s true

And unto Jesus come,

And just receive this gift of peace

That’s offered everyone,

Then you’ll have shoes so comfortable

To wear around each day.

When you know God’s at peace with you,

You’ll walk a peaceful way.

 

My feet shod with the shoes of peace;

Oh, what a walk that is!

I know my God’s not mad at me;

I love this peace that’s His!

By faith, I wear these on my feet,

My Christian walk, I mean.

These shoes are surely comfortable,

As on God’s peace I lean.
