THE  CHURCH  NEEDS  REST

By "Rebekah" the Bride

(Hebrews 4:1-11; 9:14; Matthew 11:28,29)

There is a problem in the church in these last days, I see,
That Christians need to know about, one to take seriously.
No matter where believers live--north, south, or east or west,
The problem, in a nutshell, is: The church is not at rest.

Oh, miracles are happening; God's moving in the earth;
Deliverance and healing; crowds getting the new birth.
So many getting answers to their hearts' prayer request.
But still there is this problem: The church is not at rest.

This rest must be important so we need ears to hear.
God says that not to find it is something we should fear.
There's lots that we should not fear but here's a fear that's best:
The church should really be afraid that she'll not find God's rest!

When Jesus dwelt among us, He said that we could get
This rest by coming unto Him--rest for the soul--and yet--
The church seems not to make this their top priority.
This rest has been neglected--oh, what a tragedy!

Why don't more pastors teach their flocks to enter into rest?
They seem to say, "Evangelize, and find your gift--that's best."
These things, they are important, but they're not number one.
The rest comes first, and then the other things will all get done.

Believer, can you really say that it's well with your soul?
That you're completely right with God, what Christ did made you whole?
There's not ONE THING you need to do to add to what Christ's done
To save your soul upon the cross--it's been done by the Son.

Now, you don't need to serve the Lord or read the word and pray,
Or go to church, communion take, and witness every day,
To keep yourself in favor with the God who saved your soul.
The church that says, "Oh, yes, you must" is not at rest, you know.

If you are really willing to cease from the works you do
To keep yourself okay with God, then rest you'll come into.
It may not be an easy thing--most will not understand--
But you will be the one to go into God's "promised land."

This promised land, it is a rest we can be in on earth.
(Of course, we cannot be in it without the second birth.)
If Christians do not enter rest, they'll still to heaven go;
But, oh, it's such a foolish choice to miss this rest, please know.

The church is really overworked, she needs to enter rest.
Unless she does, her works are dead, her choices aren't the best.
But if she enters, it will mean she's really passed the test.
When Christ returns, He'll be so pleased to find His church at rest!
