BE A GOOD
RECEIVER

Such a good Giver is our Lord.
God is so rich and can afford
To give us blessings from above;
His gifts He longs to give with love.
But we must willingly receive
Those gifts from Him and just believe
That all good gifts come from above;
Come from our God, our God of love.
***
But there’s a problem we must face,
One shared by all the human race:
The problem is that we believe
Unless we earn, we can’t receive
The blessings that God has for us.
It’s hard for humans just to trust
That gifts from God are really free,
And given unconditionally.
***
The greatest gift God ever gave
Was Jesus Christ, our souls to save.
His Son died there on Calvary;
He shed His blood for you and me.
We only need to just believe,
And then be willing to receive
The greatest gift there’ll ever be,
So we can live eternally.
***
To just receive this gift that’s free
Is humbling for you and me,
And many won’t believe today;
They try to find another way.
A good receiver they won’t be;
They’d rather risk eternity
Than yield to God and simply say:
"Salvation free, I want today."
***
But there are those who will believe,
Salvation willingly receive.
And when Christ lives within their heart,
It’s only just the place to start
Receiving gifts from up above.
There’s so much more our God would love
To share with us, to give us free;
Gifts that He has for you and me.
***
Salvation’s like a treasure chest
That’s filled with gifts with which we’re blessed.
Let’s open up the chest and see
What God has there for you and me.
There’s love and peace and righteousness
Abounding in the treasure chest.
I’m naming only just a few
To be received by me--you, too.
***
So long we have been taught to earn
God’s love, but now we need to learn
Each day God’s love to us is free,
And given unconditionally.
It is a gift you must receive.
You really need to just believe
No matter what you say or do,
God always is in love with you.
***
The gift of peace that’s in that chest
Is such a gift with which you’re blessed.
God always is at peace with you;
It is not based on what you do.
A gift it is--won’t you believe?
Each day God’s peace, oh, just receive.
This peace for which the world does long,
This gift, it does to you belong.
***
God sees you righteous in His sight;
He sees you that way day and night.
"Their righteousness shall be of Me";
It’s Christ in us that God does see.
Trust in Christ’s righteousness alone;
Oh, Christian, do not trust your own.
A good receiver you can be,
Receiving righteousness that’s free.
***
As I said, these are just a few
Of all the gifts God has for you.
There’s also joy and faithfulness,
And self-control and gentleness;
Humility and patience, too,
Are gifts God longs to give to you.
They’re in salvation’s treasure chest;
Receive them free and you’ll be blessed.
