AN EXODUS IS COMING

An exodus is coming;
I feel it’s on the way.
The latter rain’s beginning
To fall on saints today.
An exodus to freedom
Seems to be at the door;
As the dear Holy Spirit,
On them, begins to pour.
***
The Hebrew saints in Egypt
Bore such a heavy load.
Taskmasters hovered o’er them;
They walked a weary road.
Backbreaking work was their lot;
Their lives were so oppressed.
They needed a deliverer
Who’d bring them into rest.
***
No joy, no peace, no hope for
These slaves in Egypt’s land.
Though they were God’s dear
children,
Their lives were dark and bland.
Their hearts were filled with
anguish;
Of God, they weren’t aware.
Though He had never left them,
It seemed He wasn’t there.

One day there came a breakthrough;
God answered their heart cries.
God raised up a deliverer;
Their hopes began to rise.
Then Moses said to Pharaoh,
"Just let God’s people go!"
Their exodus was coming,
And hope began to flow.

You know the old, old story,
How Moses led them out;
And how the Red Sea opened.
They crossed by foot not boat.
Oh, how these saints rejoiced then
When on the other shore.
No longer slaves but free now,
Their hearts with joy did soar.

Are you a slave in "Egypt,"
Though Christ dwells in your heart?
Is your life dark and dreary?
Darkness that won’t depart?
For rest you may be longing
From slavery to this world.
Look up, the rain is coming;
Deliverance is unfurled!

The wilderness has Christians
Just going round and round,
But some are still in Egypt;
Caught in the world they’re found.
Just look for the Lord Jesus
To open their Red Sea.
No longer slaves in Egypt.
What freedom that will be!

Oh, what an exodus coming!
"God, open the Red Sea!
And let the slaves in Egypt
Begin to be set free!"
If you’re a worldly Christian,
Get ready where you are.
The exodus is coming;
The time is near, not far.

If you know ones in "Egypt,"
Your friends or family,
Though they know God, they’ve slipped
back
Into things so worldly,
Get ready, the rain’s falling;
Deliverance comes their way.
That exodus could happen
To them most any day!

God’s longing for these Christians,
Backslidden in the world,
To come back to their First Love;
His mercy’s been unfurled.
"Come back to Me," says Father;
"My arms are open wide."
Oh, prodigal, return now,
And in God’s peace abide.

The latter rain is falling;
The darkness has to flee.
Christ Jesus, God did raise up
To set the captives free.
No longer will the devil
Keep God’s people in chains.
An exodus is coming;
Just shout now, "Our God reigns!"
