ALWAYS A BUTTERFLY

***
A butterfly, just flying round,
Is a delight to watch, I’ve found;
Just floating on a summer breeze,
Or touching down on flowers and trees.
So beautiful and fancy free,
I said, "I’d really like to be
Just like a butterfly in flight;
To have that freedom day and night."
***
There was a time, back in the past,
This creature could not move so fast.
A caterpillar, woolly brown,
It was before, down on the ground.
It had no wings, it could not fly;
No soaring in the wind up high.
It inched along and crawled around;
The caterpillar was earthbound.
***
One day that caterpillar changed,
For its Creator had arranged
For it around itself to spin
A cocoon it could live within.
Inside a change would come about;
A butterfly would soon come out.
A new creation! Made brand new!
Just like the new birth God gave you!
***
Believer, you’re a butterfly.
You’re heaven bound and you can fly
Above the problems here on earth,
For you have had the second birth.
A new creation’s what you are,
Unlike that old you—yes, by far!
Believe it for it’s really true;
God says that you have been made new.
***
That butterfly would always be
A butterfly, oh, don’t you see?
It could not ever change back to
A caterpillar—no can do!
And once God gives you the new birth,
You’ve been made new right here on earth;
And you just can’t change back into
That old creation—you’re brand new!
***
One day a butterfly I found;
It just was lying on the ground.
Smudges of dirt and other things
Were on that butterfly’s poor wings.
It was not flying, sad to say;
It’d had a "caterpillar" day.
But it was not one, that was true.
Oh, Christian, is that just like you?
***
Do you have days when you feel down,
Like that poor creature on the ground?
You have a "caterpillar" day;
It seems the old you’s back to stay.
But that’s a lie, you’re still brand new,
Though things on earth are "smudging" you.
Arise, and just shake off the dust;
And what God says, please, really trust.
***
What God says is reality,
Not what you feel, not what you see.
In Christ, you’re a creation new,
Though feelings might say, "That’s not true!"
Just like that caterpillar low,
You feel like it sometimes below;
But what God says, please, don’t deny,
And He says you’re a butterfly!
***
A butterfly! Praise ye the Lord!
Believer, you just can’t afford
To let a "caterpillar" day
Fill you with doubt and make you stray
Away from God’s reality,
For like the butterfly you’re free.
The old has gone, you’ve been made new;
God says it, therefore, it is true!
